Cyclo Vac: Common Maintenance Issues

Having a Cyclo Vac central vacuum system installed in your home is great. It’s quiet and convenient; you don’t have to lug your vacuum cleaner around the house anymore. Now that you have this marvelous machine installed in your home, you want it to last you as long as possible. Cyclo Vac central vacuums are like any other appliance: they require care and maintenance to keep them running smoothly. At JN Bergeron, we know that a central vacuum is an investment, and you want to get the most out of it. You can expect a Cyclo Vac to last you 20 years. Here are some common maintenance issues to look out for to ensure that it does last that long.

Change the filter.

Just like a portable vacuum cleaner, a Cyclo Vac has a bag that collects the dust, dirt, and debris that it sucks up when you clean your house. How often you have to change the vacuum bag depends on how frequently you use your central vac system. Most people find that they have to change the bag three or four times a year. Make sure you only use Cyclo Vac brand replacement bags. You could void your warranty if you use off-brand bags.

In addition to the vacuum bag, a Cyclo Vac also has a filter located between the vacuum bag and the motor. The manufacturer recommends that you change the filter after changing the bag three times. This works out to about 45 hours of use. Again, if you use your central vacuum a lot, you may have to change the filter more often.

Check for clogs.

If you notice that you are getting low or no suction from your central vacuum, it could mean that you need to change the bag or the filter. It could also mean that there is a clog somewhere in the Cyclo Vac system. Clogs can happen in the vacuum heads, hoses, or central vac pipes. If it is in the vacuum head or hose, you can usually see it and clear it out pretty easily. If the clog is in one of the pipes, clearing it out can be a little tricky.
